BNSF SD75s : A Special Tribute to the Warbonnet

The red-and-silver Warbonnet paint scheme introduced by Santa Fe back in the 1950s is arguably the most attractive and popular paint scheme in all of railroading history. For this DVD, we exclusively chose the SD75 model not only because it's our favorite Warbonnet, but also because it wears the paint scheme very well. When the Santa Fe became absorbed into today's BNSF system in 1995, the carrier had recently purchased an order of 51 SD75Ms delivered in Warbonnet paint. Soon thereafter, BNSF ordered an additional 25 units. Luckily, the BNSF had not decided on an official paint scheme yet, so these additional units also came delivered in Warbonnet colors, except the Santa Fe lettering on the long hood was replaced with BNSF. However, Santa Fe was still spelled out along the "cigar band" on the front of the locomotives. Finally, BNSF ordered a final 26 SD75I units delivered in Warbonnet colors, except this time the Santa Fe on the nose was also replaced by BNSF lettering. This gave a total of 102 SD75s on the BNSF roster (#s 8200-8301) wearing Warbonnet paint.

This DVD is a special tribute to the Warbonnet that will soon disappear forever from the face of railroading once BNSF repaints the remaining fleet. At the time this DVD was produced, 72 units remained in Warbonnet paint. The first segment of the DVD includes run-through pool power on NS trains. The remaining portion of the DVD is comprised of various visits to the BNSF between 2001 and 2006. All trains featured have one of the SD75 Warbonnets in the lead position, with some trains running with solid sets of these beauties. Even as late as 2006, these magnificent locomotives are holding up extremely well, as you yourself will witness as you enjoy this unique compilation and pay a special tribute to the Warbonnet!
