Best of 2006 - Volume Three

This third volume for 2006 represents the final installment in our "Best of" series. Volume Three covers the months of June through December. We continue to follow the adventures of Southeast Railfanning videographer Mike Dixon, who is also a railroad employee, as he "sniffs out" those exotic, colorful, and unusual locomotive consists on various CSXT and NS trains running in the Southeast across the states of Alabama and Georgia. The trains are shown in chronological order. All of the exciting locomotive lashups you have come to expect from Southeast Railfanning are all here for you to enjoy. Highlights include KCS "ghost" SD40-2 #650 in the old white paint scheme leading a BNSF Heritage-II Dash-9 on NS intermodal train 24E. On the same day, we venture over to CSX rails and catch vehicle train Q237 running with a rare maroon CEFX SD90MAC in the lead. We were also extremely lucky to catch CSXT SD60 #8715 (the last SD60 on the CSXT roster still in Conrail paint at the time this video went to Production) leading a "rainbow consist" on southbound manifest Q541. We also were able to chase southbound CSXT manifest Q583 running between Chattanooga and Atlanta with HLCX SD40-2 #8171 leading UP C40-8 #9339, CSXT SD40-2 #8431, and CSXT SD40 #4617, the last engine still in original C&O paint! There are simply too many exciting lashups to list here, so sit back and indulge yourself in some of the best armchair railfanning you will ever experience! If you have already purchased our 2004 and 2005 volumes, you will definitely want to check out our 2006 volumes to complete your collection of our "Best of" series. Come see why 2006 was another fantastic year for Southeast Railfanning!! Videography by Mike Dixon and David Stewart. Edited and Produced by Mike Dixon.

On December 8, which was a very cold morning with a temperature of 15 degrees, a KCS SD40-2 leads a pair of Conrail-painted units to make a nice all-EMD lashup on NS intermodal train 220 as it passes through Hubbard, Georgia. This train is included on the DVD. Repainted HLCX SD40-2 #6308 leads another HLCX SD40-2 still in its UP paint on southbound Tropicana Juice Train K651. The location here is Byromville, Georgia on the CSXT Fitzgerald Sub. This train normally runs along the East Coast, but at the time CSXT was detouring many trains further inland while emergency repairs were made to Anacostia Bridge in Washington, D.C. This train is included on the DVD.
