Best of 2004 - Volume Three



Best of 2004 - Volume Three is our third and final installment of our "Best of" series for 2004, and details the results of Southeast Railfanning videographer Mike Dixon. Mr. Dixon is also a railroad employee and his passion for chasing down exotic locomotive consists is clearly depicted in this compilation. Volume Three covers the months of September through December. The featured trains are mainly CSXT and NS trains captured in the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, with a few BNSF and CN trains captured in Alabama and Mississippi. More of the exciting and interesting locomotive consists you have come to expect from Southeast Railfanning are here for you to see and enjoy. All the trains are shown in chronological order. This time, we begin on a warm Labor Day weekend in Alabama where we capture a rare Military Train on the NS with KCS run-through power. Next, we are off to the BNSF Birmingham Sub on the same day to capture northbound manifest M-BIRKCK with a quartet of BN cascade green-painted locomotives. Finally, we conclude on a clear, cold late December day where we have the pleasure of capturing southbound CSXT manifest Q647 with a pair of "unpatched" green-and-white BN tri-window SD60Ms and a green-and-silver FURX SD40-2 for power. Other highlights include UP SD40-2 #3300 (a.k.a. "The United Way Unit"), adorned in a special red, white, and blue paint scheme, leading an unpatched SP CW44AC on a CSXT phosphate train, Utah Railway SD40 #9003 LEADING northbound CSXT manifest Q682, a pure Grand Trunk Western SD40, #5925 (in full GTW paint!), leading a northbound CN loaded ore train in Mississippi, and much, much more. There are simply way too many exciting lashups to list here, so sit back and indulge yourself in some of the best armchair railfanning you will ever experience! We promise you the trains featured on this DVD are the best you will see anywhere, because having access to the railroads' computer systems mean we only capture the most unusual locomotive consists plying today's rails. Grand Trunk Western SD40 #5925 is in charge of northbound CN loaded ore train U767 as it passes through Falcon, Mississippi on Thursday, September 30 at 9:15am. This train is included on the DVD. Utah Railway SD40 #9003 leads a colorful locomotive consist on northbound CSXT manifest Q682 as it passes through Lavergne, Tennessee during the late afternoon hours on Friday, December 3. This train is included on the DVD.
